ECE Graduate Admission Requirements

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is proud to offer graduate and doctoral programs in Electrical Engineering.

Candidates for the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy programs in Electrical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering must first meet the general graduate admission requirements of either FAMU or FSU.

In addition, a candidate must also meet the department requirements.

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (Thesis Option)

The Department offers a thesis program for the Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering. Depending on the university, interested students should also consult the FAMU or FSU Graduate Student Handbook.

To be considered for admission, candidates must have:

  1. Earned a bachelor of science degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline, from an accredited college or university.
  2. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all work attempted beyond 60 semester hours of undergraduate study
  3. A minimum score of 148 points for the quantitative section and 145 points for the verbal section of the GRE test.

International candidates must also obtain at least:

  1. 80 points on the internet-based TOEF exam or 550 points on the paper-based TOELF exam,
  2. 6.5 points in the IELTS,
  3. 55 points in the Pearson's PTE academic examination,or
  4. 77 points in the MELAB examination.

 

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (Non-thesis Option)

The Department offers a thesis program for the Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering. Depending on the university, interested students should also consult the FAMU or FSU Graduate Student Handbook.

To be considered for admission, candidates must have:

  1. Earned a bachelor of science degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline, from an accredited college or university.
  2. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all work attempted beyond 60 semester hours of undergraduate study
  3. A minimum score of 148 points for the quantitative section and 145 points for the verbal section of the GRE test; GRE waiver request form for non-thesis master’s degrees.

International candidates must also obtain at least:

  1. 80 points on the internet-based TOEF exam or 550 points on the paper-based TOELF exam,
  2. 6.5 points in the IELTS,
  3. 55 points in the Pearson's PTE academic examination,or
  4. 77 points in the MELAB examination.

 

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

The Department offers a thesis program for the Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering. Depending on the university, interested students should also consult the FAMU or FSU Graduate Student Handbook.

To be considered for admission, candidates must have:

  1. Earned a bachelor of science degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline, from an accredited college or university.
  2. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale on all baccalaureate course work and any graduate work attempted, and
  3. A minimum score of 151 points for the quantitative section and 145 points for the verbal section of the GRE test.

International candidates must also obtain at least:

  1. 80 points on the internet-based TOEF exam or 550 points on the paper-based TOELF exam,
  2. 6.5 points in the IELTS,
  3. 55 points in the Pearson's PTE academic examination,or
  4. 77 points in the MELAB examination.
