Graduate Students Win Awards at 2023 James Brooks Symposium

Four materials science and engineering graduate students from Florida State University and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering were recently named winners of the 2023 James Brooks Symposium oral presentation competition.

The April 21, 2023 competition was open to students in the interdisciplinary Materials Science and Engineering graduate program at the college. Each student talked about their current research.

FAMU-FSU Graduate Students Awarded Jan Evetts Award and IEEE Fellowships at the 2022 Applied Superconductivity Conference

Yavuz Oz, a post-doctoral researcher at the Florida State University-headquartered National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) took first place for the best paper published in Superconductor Science and Technology (SUST) by a young researcher. The Jan Evetts SUST Award was presented to Oz at the 2022 Applied Superconductivity Conference, held this Fall.

Senior Design 2023

Every year, senior engineering students participate in a two-semester Senior Design course, where they apply the knowledge learned in the classroom and work with industry partners on a sponsored project. These undergraduates work in teams, often interdisciplinary to provide innovative and creative solutions for real-life projects. Senior Design is a signature engineering capstone experience for students and the experience helps them realize specific design needs by using engineering skills they have learned through the curriculum.
