Project Requirements

Design of tooling capable of metals processing at cryogenic temperatures.

Design of tooling capable of metals processing at elevated temperatures.

List of materials and their properties for press to test.

Testing and selection of die materials.

Detailed design for engineering fabricated ECAP die.

Design must incorporate a channel for deformation of the sample through angular bending.

Processed material must pass through its elastic region into its plastic region.

Sample must be easily inserted and removed from die.

Inside channel of die must be treated to prevent friction between the sample and the die.

Fabricated tooling.

Conduct initial testing of copper samples through ECAP press.

Sample should be proven to have a decreased uniform grain boundary structure, thus increasing material properties (strength specifically).

Die design must be proven to be reusable for all specifications.

To stay within the budget specified by the sponsor (Eglin).

Satisfy sponsor expectations.
