HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS

    The details of the calculations performed thus far can be found in the appendix. A brief description of the process used follows in this section. The total heat transfered can be determined by using the following equation

q = S(Hs-hs)
Where q is heat transferred in the evaporator, S is lbs/hr of saturated steam entering system, Hs is the enthalpy of the saturated steam, hs is enthalpy of condensed steam leaving system. The heat transfer coefficients were then determined by rearranging the following equation.
q = UAÄT
Where U is the heat transfer coefficient, A is the surface area of the evaporator, and ÄT is the difference in temperature between the saturated steam and condensing steam. These heat transfer coefficients were then compared to available values.
