HEAT AND MATERIAL BALANCES


    Material balances per effect were calculated using values provided in the process flow diagram. Results we obtained individually from the solids and water balance by adding and subtracting steams entering and exiting each effect. The amount added in the feed must be removed in the product. Balances for the individual stream were calculated in excel using a process called the sequential modular method. The water balance is a estimated value because of the leakage of pumps, loss of water vapor, and addition of steam. The sequential modular process using the iterative method to calculate the values in each stream. Heat balances were calculated in the similar manner. The enthalpy in each component of each stream was determined, and totaled to obtain the complete enthalpy in each stream. The sequential modular method was again used to complete the balance of enthalpies to complete a total heat balance.
