Process Flow Diagram

The process flow diagram above shows the direction and routes of the cold component (water) in blue and the hot component (steam) in red.  The flows are counter-current with the water flowing in the tube and the steam flowing in the shell. The water enters on the left hand side and flows up and to the right with a measurable pressure difference indicated by DP.  The steam enters on the right hand side and flows up and to the left.  In each heat exchanger, temperature probes are positioned and numbered from 1 to 7 to provide zone temperature readings.  The volumetric flow rate of the water (Q) leaving from the top heat exchanger can be measured in a volumetric collection cylinder as shown.  The mass flow rate of the steam is found by condensing the leaving steam and collecting it in a container to be massed.
