Heat Exchangers
Introduction
Heat exchangers are used to facilitate a transfer of thermal energy between two fluids. It occurs by convection in each fluid on either side of the boundary wall, and conduction through the boundary wall. The overall heat transfer achieved depends on the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet fluid streams and the heat transfer area of the device. This relationship is evident in the calculation of U, overall heat transfer coefficient, which depends on the log mean temperature difference, DTlm, the heat transfer area, A, and the heat transfer rate, Q.
