FAMU-FSU College of Engineering faculty member Rebekah Sweat and alumnus Yourri Dessureault are finalists in the SAMPE 2022 Young Professionals Emerging Leadership Award. The award recognizes the achievements of young professionals (who have graduated from a university and are also under the age of 35) by sending application finalists to the SAMPE North America technical conference and exhibition to network with peers and industry professionals, and to increase their understanding of the materials and process community.

“Rebekah Sweat and Yourri Dessureault have set a high standard for innovation and creativity in advancing material and process engineering,” said Jerome Berg, President of SAMPE. “This award is a testament to the skill, dedication, and professionalism of its creators.”

Sweat is an assistant professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at the college and a researcher at the High-Performance Materials Institute. Dessureault is an alumnus of the college and HPMI research assistant. He is currently an engineer at Virgin Galactic.

“Seeing Rebekah and Yourri recognized by SAMPE for their achievements confirms what we have known all along,” said Okenwa Okoli, chair, professor and associate director of HPMI. “They are going to play an integral role in setting the standard for the future of our industry and we are very proud of them both.”

Sweat and Dessureault will be recognized for their achievement at the SAMPE Awards Breakfast on May 26, at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina.
