Jerry Wekezer, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Jerry Wekezer has established the Crashworthiness and Impact Analysis Laboratory (CIAL) at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering in 1995. Dr. Wekezer served as the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage (1990-94) and the Chairman of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (1994-2004). He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the states of Alaska and Florida. His research interests include simulation-based engineering science and applied computational mechanics. Dr. Wekezer's research was sponsored by NSF, FHWA, FTA, FDOT, U.S. ERDC, ARL, and other federal and state agencies and organizations. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Dr. Les Kwasniewski graduated with his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) in 1986. He also earned his Ph.D. degree from WUT in 1997. Dr. Les Kwasniewski has been working at CIAL since 2002 as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. His primary employment is at the Department of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology. He regularly visits the Lab (usually in February and in summers every year) to participate in current research projects.

Chris Rawl received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Florida State University in Civil Engineering in the fall of 2008, with a Cum Laude distinction. In the spring of 2009 he entered the Masters program at the Florida State University. Since the fall of 2008 he has worked as a research assistant at the Crashworthiness and Impact Analysis Laboratory supervised by Dr. Jerry Wekezer. Most of his work pertained to the design and implementation of experiments related to paratransit bus safety.

Atul Patil graduated with Bachelors of Engineering from University of Mumbai and MS in Civil Engineering from Florida State University. He started his PhD from fall 2010. His research is focused on interaction between wind and long span bridges.

Bejoy P. Alduse, current PhD student is working on wind engineering and aerodynamics of long span bridges under Dr. Sungmoon Jung. He got his bachelors degree from NIT Calicut, India in 2003. He got his masters degree from Virginia Tech in Dec 2008.

Claudia Guattari

Claudia Guattari, current research assistant at CIAL.
PhD student in Civil Engineering from University of Roma TRE (Italy). She has been working at CIAL as exchange student under an international exchange program from August 2010 until November 2010. The topic of her research is assessing the rollover of a vehicle that is moving on a circular trajectory with different boundary conditions (coefficient of friction, radius, angular velocity) in terms of road safety.

Luca Giacomini

Luca Giacomini, current research assistant at CIAL. Graduated with his B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from University of Roma Tre (Italy). He has been working at CIAL from May 2010 until November 2010 under an international exchange program. His research is focused on the assessment of stopping distance in different conditions of pavement (coefficient of friction, cracks).
