Statement about Service (10/19/1989)

The small size of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the College of Engineering at its inception has required considerable effort on services by each faculty member. I have played a significant part in that, since I recognize the need for such services both inside and outside the University.

Departmental

I have set up most of the departmental computer equipment. I have upgraded our departmental MicroVAX I to a MicroVAX II, installed all software on our second MicroVAX II, and provided for our word processing and graphics capabilities. I have further assisted in setting up the work stations in our design lab.

I have chaired the departmental Committee on Computer Equipment.

I am serving on the departmental Graduate Committee.

I have served on the Faculty Search Committee.

I have served briefly on the departmental Promotion and Tenure Committee.

I have been in charge of supplies.

I have been involved with the ASME student section, and acted as judge in the award of a $1,000.00 prize.

College

I have served on the Committees on Scholarship and Awards.

I have served on the Curriculum Committee.

I have served on the College Policy Committee.

I have served on the Computer Committee since its inception, acting as its secretary for one semester.

University

I am serving on the Engineering Mathematics Courses Committee.

I have participated in the Faculty-to-Faculty Articulation Visits to Regional Community/Junior Colleges.

I have participated in the University Telephone Recruitment Campaign.

Locally

I participate each year in the Capital Region Science Fair.

I have presented a short refresher course in numerical methods at the Department of Transportation in Tallahassee.

I have been organizer for the United Way Fund drive for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
