----------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM: A HTML web page was found. Html is a language for writing web pages, and not for e-mail. Sending html is an attempt by Netscape and Microsoft to press out competing true e-mail programs. In true e-mail programs like elm, which I use, html messages show up as garbage. Unfortunately, I have no plans to give in to those who would pursue monopolies at the expense of others. If you want me to be able to read what you write, you will need to send it in a format that does not violate netiquette (good manners on the net.) That is plain text. It also saves a lot of band width and disk space. SOLUTION 1: In Microsoft Express, there is a drop-down box in the middle of the toolbars that allows you select to send plain text. Ignore Microsoft whining that this does not help them pursue monopolies; they have already been convicted of that. SOLUTION 2: In Netscape 6, go into "Edit / Preferences / Mail & Newsgroups (click on the +, if any)", then select "Message Composition" and make sure that quoted-printable is NOT selected. Also select "Send Format" and make sure messages are converted to plain text. SOLUTION 3: In Netscape 4, go into "Edit / Preferences / Mail & Newsgroups (click on the +, if any)", then select "Messages" and select that messages with 8 bit characters are send "As is". Also select "Formatting" and select both to "use the plain text editor" and to "convert messages into plain text". SOLUTION 4: If your program is not on the list, contact me by phone. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
