Mathcad

Introduction

Mathcad is a powerful way to solve the lengthy formulae in gasdynamics. Charney Davy has preformatted all equations for you. So you need only use them to solve your problem. And you are not responsible for any errors in the given equations! Charney is.

Using The Formulae

Start by downloading the formulae sheet to your unix disk (called "username on koala") by right-clicking the following link and selecting "Save link as..." in Internet Explorer: Formulae.mcd. In the same way, save: Examples.mcd

Now start up Mathcad from the Start Menu of the PCs in room A205 CEB, or from the "Engineering" folder on network drive \\koala\public. You can also use Mathcad from the PCs in room B114 from C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\DESKTOP\ENGINEERING. Either way, it will open Mathcad with a blank untitled worksheet.

If you are already familiar with Mathcad, open up Formulae.mcd and cut and paste the formulae you need from there into your blank document. If you are not yet familiar with Mathcad, see the next section.

An Intro to Mathcad

If you are not familiar with Mathcad I suggest that you go to the RESOURCE CENTER. The Resource Center can be accessed from the Mathcad toolbar at the top of the page by selecting HELP. Scroll down to the second link, which is called RESOURCE CENTER, this will open up a new page that contains various links. If you want to get an introduction to Mathcad, I suggest you go to OVERVIEW AND TUTORIALS, which shows a general list of topics and the type of problems that Mathcad is capable of solving. Go to AN OVERVIEW OF MATHCAD 2000 to get a general idea of these problems.

Once you are finished reviewing this section, use the back arrows to return to the OVERVIEW AND TUTORIALS section. From there you can go into the GETTING STARTED TUTORIAL section. This tutorial section will teach you the basics principles for using Mathcad. This section contains a variety of different topics and I encourage you to go through them in your spare time.

When you have an idea of how Mathcad works, from within Mathcad, proceed as described in the previous section.
