Minimum Suction Range

Since the boundary layer equations do not allow upstream influence, a minimum suction range can be derived.

For strong enough suction, the boundary layer in the suction region will be very thin and have an asymptotic suction profile.

A boundary layer that starts at zero thickness at the end of the suction region should not separate.

It appears that the resulting minimum suction regions are both necessary and sufficient. Their size scales with the nose radius.
