FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Hosts Engineering Design Day

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering will open its doors to the public for its annual engineering design day on April 13.

Event website: http://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/edd/

The daylong event features innovative, creative and multidisciplinary projects developed by graduating senior engineering students. Each team, composed of students from among five different departments, will present their academic capstone design projects simulating real-world experiences. Projects include everything from robots to renewable energy systems to buildings/infrastructure design.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Dean J. Murray Gibson said the senior design class is the capstone element of an engineering education – it’s an opportunity to draw on knowledge and design an engineering prototype that addresses a societal need.

"Many of our projects are real challenges sponsored by industry, and all involve teams of students working together in realistic conditions," he said. "I am excited that our college has implemented a showcase of design projects that provides an opportunity to show off our talented students and their ideas, and thank our sponsors."

This year’s event will showcase 71 capstone projects with more than 300 senior engineering students participating.

Oral presentations will take place from 8 am until 12:30 pm and poster presentations will run from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm In between, the college will host the 2nd Annual Technology Business Pitch Competition, otherwise known in the college as Engineering Shark Tank. The evening will conclude with an awards ceremony. Members of the public are invited to stop by the event at any time.
