Lockheed Martin is the premier defense contractor for the United States and an employer of 125,000 people including thousands of engineers.  The name Lockheed Martin evolved from a merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation in 1995. With specialization in aeronautic, integrated and space systems as well as numerous technology services, Lockheed Martin is leading the way in assuring that America continues its domination in the world of defense technology.  They claim over ¾ of its contracts from the United States government with reported 2002 sales approximated at $26.6 billion.

In an effort to reach out to engineering students and spark interest in defense technology, Lockheed frequently sponsors student design projects. Arnaldo Santiago, a Simulation H/W Design Associate Manager at Lockheed Martin, has chosen to sponsor a senior design project for the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering proposing the next generation Small Arms Transmitter (SAT).  In doing this, Arnaldo seeks to use the creative imaginations of engineering students to originate a more durable, aesthetic and overall enhanced design for the next generation Small Arms Transmitter.
