Your support will enable the Department of Mechanical Engineering to better meet the needs of the students it serves by supporting the following activities.

Senior Design

Your donations will help to buy tools and pay for teaching assistants in support of our senior design projects. These projects are all sponsored by industry, government labs, or local research centers. A new senior design room, which hosts many of the projects, became operational in February 2013. This one-year course is truly the capstone of our curriculum.

"The Senior Design program allowed me to gain valuable work experience and opened the door to further opportunities. My project was sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory and resulted in my being employed by them as a graduate researcher during my time in the department's BS-MS program." Joseph Chason, Class of 2012

Help M.E. Center

Your donations will help to pay for tutors working in the ME Help Center, which is actually labeled the "Help ME Center" to emphasize that this is definitely the place to go for academic help. The center is open all-day and is designed so that all undergraduate ME students can receive help. The center has been recently refurbished and equipped with white board walls. As a result, students gravitate to it for help far more than in the past.

"Without the ME Help Center I would have been lost in Dynamic Systems II. It's a great place to seek help and study!" Lorena Sanchez, Class of 2013.

Student Organizations

Involvement in student organizations is a vital part of the college experience as it provides students with leadership skills, the opportunity for design competitions, outreach opportunities in the local community and social support. The Department regularly provides funding to support affiliated student organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) , the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Sustainable Engineered Solutions and Pi Tau Sigma - the Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. Your donations will help to support the competitions, outreach, and other activities of these student organizations.

"Without the Department of Mechanical Engineering's financial support, the FAMU-FSU Baja Team would have been stuck at the starting line!" Danny Canuto, SAE President 2012-2013, Class of 2014.
